Home Office & Study Crown

Home offices reward crown molding more than almost any other room, because they're small, they're seen up close, and they're increasingly on camera. A defined ceiling line makes a converted bedroom read as a purpose-built study.

Best suited to

Studies, home offices, and libraries — particularly rooms with existing built-in cabinetry, where crown ties the millwork and the ceiling into one composition.

What makes it look right

Meeting the built-ins cleanly. Where crown runs into a bookcase or cabinet run, the joint has to be planned rather than improvised, and the profile on the casework should relate to the profile on the walls without necessarily matching it. In darker rooms we tend to recommend a slightly deeper profile, since shadow does more of the work.

Typical timeline

One day, including work around existing cabinetry.
