Tray Ceiling Crown

If your home already has a tray or coffered ceiling, it was built to hold molding — and most builders leave it bare. Crown along the tray's edges is the single highest-impact upgrade available to a bedroom, and it costs less than people expect because the architecture is already there.

What makes it look right

Scale discipline. A tray has multiple edges, and molding that's too heavy makes the ceiling feel like it's closing in. We size the profile to the depth of the recess, and where a tray steps twice, the crown steps with it. Corners on a tray are unforgiving — there's nowhere for a sloppy miter to hide.
